About us
The International School of Neurological Sciences located on the island of S. Servolo, Venice (ISNV) was founded in 1990, at the beginning of the "Brain Decade". It is ISNV's aim to provide health professionals with the opportunity to improve their skills in the Neurological Sciences by organizing courses conducted by leading international experts in specific fields. In addition, ISNV is always ready to host meetings, workshops and round-tables proposed by other institutions upon approbation of the School’s Directory Board. The School is divided into sections that periodically hold meetings and courses.
It is important to underline the fact that the School, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), promoted and hosted the first international meeting/course on Neurology and Public Health (1993). Subsequently meetings took place in different countries, and, at present, Neurology and Public Health is one of the sections of the WHO. We are sorry that we cannot mention here all the courses and meetings organized, because they have built the School's reputation. However, we have to underline that in 1995 ISNV had a significant acknowledgment from the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) which accepted the School as a Corporate Member of the WFN. In 1997 ISNV became a corporate member of the European Epilepsy Academy (Eurepa). The 1998 academic year begun with an important event: the formalization of the agreement between ISNV and Venice International University (VIU), in order to develop a program of permanent education on the island of San Servolo.
For other infomation on the activities of Venice International University please visit the VIU home page Since the summer 2002 so far. ISNV, in cooperation with the International League against Epilepsy, thank to the fondamental work of Avanzini and the De Curtis, organized many residential summer schools on specific topics in the field of Epileptology. This was the first example of a new didactic model which has become a reference point at a international level. ISNV aims to emphasize its role as a center of education associated with leading international institutions. We do hope that ISNV will constitute a worldwide landmark in the field of Neurological education.
Its mandatory to mentionate that the school survived all this year thank the President Giuliano Avanzini (real aime of the schoo)l and, recentely Marco De Curtis and Marta Maschio
